1611年薩摩より木綿の種子と織技術の導入に始まる。600種に及ぶ幾何学文様は生活や自然を図案化したものが多い。綿糸、麻糸を使用し、素朴な味わいと端正な風格を有している。
Ryūkyū-gasuri began with with the introduction of cotton seeds and weaving skills from Satsuma in the year 1611. There are 600 geometrical patterns, many of which portray nature and everyday life. Using cotton and hemp thread, Ryūkyū-gasuri posesses simple charm and noble character.
