宮古上布 of 沖縄の工芸品

沖縄県には14品目の伝統工芸品があります。（平成24年7月現在、全国3位）

起源は16世紀後半に自生の苧麻を用いて織ったのが始まりである。糸は細かく絣模様は精緻で、藍染め、手績み糸、手織等昔ながらの手法で作られており、夏物着尺を代表する高級紺上布として珍重されている。

Miyako Jōfu originated in the late 16th century when naturally growing ramie was used for weaving. This style employs thin threads and fine kasuri splashed patterns using traditional
methods such as indigo dyeing, thread twisting by hand, and handweaving. It is highly valued as a high-quality navy blue fine weave which is representative of material for summer kimono.
