琉球王朝の古都として栄えた首里では、南方諸国や中国の影響（15世紀頃）を受け、絣、花織、道屯織、花倉織、ミンサーなど独特の織物が織られている。王朝風の洗練されたデザインと手織りの醸し出す温かい肌ざわりで珍重されている。
Shuri, which flourished as the capital of the Ryūkyū Kingdom, took on much 15th century influence from China and various countries to the South. Here, unique fabrics such as kasuri, hana-ui, dōton-ori, hanakura-ori, and minsā are woven. Shuri-ori is highly valued for its design with an air of royal refinement as well as its warm texture created through hand-weaving.
