起源は15世紀頃。琉球王府の御用布として、読谷以外の一般庶民は着用できなかったという。生糸、綿糸を素材に幾何学文様を色糸で浮かせ、それに絣や縞・格子をあしらった南国的な織物である。
Originating around the 15th century, Yuntanza Hana-ui was once designated as the cloth of the royal administration of Ryūkyū, and commonfolk were were not permitted to wear it. It is a tropical fabric with geometric patterns expressed using silk and cotton thread and further decorated with striped, checked and/or kasuri splashed patterns.
